[ARCHIVED] Roadwork on Park Ave. to Last About 6 Months

roadwork

Message from Mayor Angie Devanney, April 19, 2023

(Robocall deployed 4/19/23) This is Mayor Angie Devanney. I’m calling with an important roadwork announcement. In case you have not already seen the news on our Township website, social media or downtown electronic billboard, New Jersey American Water began work on Park Avenue this week, and will continue work for 4-6 months. The work involves digging trenches the length of Park Avenue, replacing old, outsized 8-inch main pipes with 12-inch, connecting the pipes to homes, and related work. This will tremendously upgrade the water infrastructure under the ground to reduce the number of water main breaks, road corrosion and other adverse effects of aging water infrastructure. This work will be moving up and down Park Avenue on any given day, depending on where the crews need to focus.

Our Berkeley Heights Police Department is working closely with the water company to ensure the smallest portions of the road possible are closed at any one time, to alleviate inconvenience to our residents. That being said, this is very necessary work that must be done, and if the detours are more extensive one day than the next, please have patience and give yourself more time than usual to navigate the area. There are police officers stationed at each detour; if you live in the closed-off area, simply explain to the officer and they will let you through.

The good news: our water infrastructure is being upgraded and the water company will pay to have the entire road repaved when work is completed.

Thank you for your patience as we continue improvements throughout our town.

Please be advised, on or around April 17, New Jersey American Water will begin work on the length of Park Avenue, from Plainfield Avenue to Mountain Avenue. The work is expected to last about six months; residents are advised to follow posted detours during construction hours. Please contact the Berkeley Heights Police Community Policing Unit with questions. Thank you, in advance, for your patience while NJ American Water works on these necessary infrastructure upgrades.
