6 am Saturday update from JCP&L: All customers experiencing the outage due to the downed tree on Murray Hill Blvd were restored overnight. There are 3 remaining customers out in Berkeley Heights, those outages are unrelated to the former and to each other. They are being investigated today. Those 3 customers likely received a phone call from JCP&L. If you still DO NOT have power and are not one of these 3 residences, please text your address to the Township Administrator at 732-379-7923. Thank you.
8 pm Friday: Crews are on site to restore power to the Murray Hill area after a large tree fell on power lines, which then fell onto a vehicle parked in the street on Murray Hill Boulevard. As of 8 pm, the Berkeley Heights Fire Department and Police Department were on scene, along with tree crews from JCP&L power company. As of 8:41 pm, the JCP&L forestry crew had removed the tree; we are now waiting for JCP&L electricians to arrive on site to restore the power; that process could take several hours. We will provide restoration updates as we have them. The Township is in communication with JCP&L.
Area residents without power should be prepared to go several more hours at least with no power. For any residents needing a warming station or needing to plug in life-sustaining equipment or cell phones, please go to the Berkeley Heights Police Department at 29 Park Avenue in Berkeley Heights. Please push the buzzer on the call box outside the Police entrance, to the left of the main Town Hall entrance. You will be buzzed into the building and told how to proceed accordingly. With the temperatures dropping to such extremes that it will feel like negative 9 degrees overnight, please check up on your neighbors and take care of one another. If you know anyone who needs a warming station, please give them this information.
Thank you for taking care of each other, Berkeley Heights!
