[ARCHIVED] Utility Work Updates in Various BH Neighborhoods

utility work

PSE&G crews are in Berkeley Heights replacing main and services to a number of streets, weather permitting. New Jersey American Water is also often in town addressing repairs. The Township has provided the utility companies with a list of roads recently paved in town - placing a moratorium on work done on those streets. In addition, the Township has provided the utility companies with a list of roads to be paved within the next year or so, to be sure any planned work is completed on those streets before they are paved. This coordination is to prevent newly paved roads from being torn up by the utility companies for regular maintenance work. This does not preclude those companies from having to execute emergency work, however.

For PSE&G, if a customer issue arises, please call the PSE&G Gas Construction customer hotline: 1-833-661-6300. For JCP&L and New Jersey American Water, please also contact them directly with specific questions about work they may be doing in your area, or with any regular service questions. Thank you.

On August 17, 2022, the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) granted New Jersey American Water (NJAW) an increase in rates for residents. According to NJAW, the company’s rate request, which was filed on January 14, 2022, was driven by more than $985 million in infrastructure investment since the company’s last rate filing. The new rates will become effective on September 1, 2022. NJAW says the improvements it makes in their systems help ensure water is available when needed. Additionally, repairs made to water mains during an emergency can cost up to ten times more than a planned replacement or rehabilitation. For a specific breakdown of the new rates, additional information can be found at www.newjerseyamwater.com under Customer Service & Billing, Your Water and Wastewater Rates.

Gas main work being done by PSE&G on Glenside Road should be completed by mid-September. The trenches that will result from the work will need at least a few weeks to settle before PSE&G can pave portions of the road they dug up, and before the Township can pave the portion over which it installed additional drainage last fall. The Township has been working with PSE&G to ensure the construction is less burdensome on area residents, and they can be provided easier access in and out of the construction area. The Township is in discussions with PSE&G about the best way to move forward with paving the road, given that the unexpected extension of utility work in this area has delayed the Township paving the road.

Meanwhile, in the Kline Blvd area, PSE&G anticipates work will continue there through October; they are upgrading several streets in that area and want to complete the work before the Township can begin its drainage and paving project on Kline Place and Fickler Place. Work is being done on Balmoral Drive connecting services, on Bristol Court installing main and connecting services and on Lawrence Avenue installing main and connecting services.

The Township has requested that PSE&G ensure their crews keep all construction areas clean of debris, rock and other items when they are done working each day.

If a customer issue arises, please contact the Gas Construction customer hotline: 1-833-661-6300.
