Berkeley Heights Outdoor Dining Extension Details

Berkeley Heights Township has extending the outdoor dining ordinance (click here to read the ordinance) so that restaurants can continue outdoor dining until December 1, 2021. The Berkeley Heights Board of Health does NOT need any additional paperwork if your restaurant in 2020 submitted paperwork for outdoor dining that abided by current COVID protocols.

As always, please maintain proper safety measures such as hand washing, social distancing, changing gloves frequently, etc.

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions about the Upcoming $28.6 Billion Restaurant Revitalization Grant Fund - Rule Changes are coming to the program that will soon be offering grants of up to $5 million for restaurants and $10 million for restaurant groups. It is expected that applications for grants will start being accepted later this month. For now, the National Restaurant Association released answers to frequently asked questions. (ROI-NJ) 

New Jersey Theaters and Arts Venues Hope to Rebound with Federal Aid - Theaters and stages in New Jersey have lost millions in revenue, laid off staff and offered virtual events to stay afloat. N.J. Reaches 2 Million Fully Vaccinated Adults - In New Jersey, more than 5 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered. More than 2 million people have been fully vaccinated. The state has approximately 8.9 million residents, of which approximately 6.7 million are adults. Here are more statistics related to the state's vaccination campaign.(ROI-NJ) 

With More Variants Expected, State Health Officials Urge Residents to Stay Vigilant - More virus variants are likely on the way, and they may spread more easily and make people sicker than the original strain, health officials said. N.J. Loosens COVID-19 Travel Restrictions -  “New Jersey is no longer advising fully vaccinated individuals who travel domestically to self-quarantine after their trip or to get tested before or after travel,” Gov. Phil Murphy said Sunday. “The federal requirement for testing upon return to the United States following international air travel stands.” All travelers still need to take COVID-19 precautions including wearing a mask, avoiding crowds, physically distancing and washing their hands while they are traveling, state Health Commissioner Judy Persichilli said. Rutgers Expects On-Campus Vaccination Sites for Students - Rutgers University expects to have vaccination sites available to students on all three of its campuses later this spring, Executive Vice President and COO Antonio Calcado said in a video to the Rutgers community on Monday. “What we’re waiting for at this point in time, quite frankly, is supply,” he said. There’s a COVID Vaccination Clinic in Holmdel Catering to Residents with Autism  -  Getting vaccinated is tough enough in New Jersey, but for residents on the autism spectrum, noisy crowds at a regular vaccination clinic can cause anxiety-driven meltdowns. Still No COVID Vaccine Supplies for Local Pharmacies in N.J.  - Local pharmacies have retrofitted their stores and bought refrigeration systems to house and administer COVID-19 vaccines. But nearly four months into the state vaccination program, local pharmacists have yet to be allocated a supply of vaccine. (NJ Spotlight News)

In Berkeley Heights:

  • At the April 6 Township Council meeting, Council voted to extend outdoor dining in town until the end of 2021, while they work to make outdoor dining permanent 
  • The Berkeley Heights Recreation Department is working with the Administration to determine what summer youth programs will look like amidst the COVID19 pandemic and changing guidelines/restrictions. Please be on the lookout for more information from the Recreation Department and sign up for their weekly newsletter. Email Recreation@bhtwp.com
  • All parents whose children are involved in sports are reminded to follow protocols laid out by their respective sports leagues, such as wearing masks while watching games sitting in stands, ensuring kids wear masks going to and from the field, and other rules. There has been an increase in cases stemming from kids sports; we need to ensure our kids and everyone they come into contact with stays safe!
  • The Township is looking for programs to bring COVID vaccinations to homebound seniors. We are working with out Health Department, County, State and local volunteers for ways to do this as soon as possible. Please stay tuned for details. 
  • The Township Senior Vaccination Program has vaccinated almost 500 seniors to date; seniors who still have not been vaccinated are HIGHLY encouraged to do so quickly. Contact us with your information and we will have you scheduled ASAP; please click here for more.

Younger People in New Jersey are Being Hospitalized for COVID-19 at Higher Rates - Hospitalizations in New Jersey are up 28% over the past two weeks, state health officials said. Over that time, there has been a 31% increase in hospitalizations of those between the ages of 20 and 29 and a 48% increase of those between 40 to 49. New models show the pandemic’s latest wave may not peak until mid-May under a worst-case scenario. (nj.com)

New Jersey Launches a Website Designed to Help Users Find COVID-19 Vaccination Appointments - The site aggregates information from across multiple scheduling platforms, multiple times an hour, letting people know when slots are open, and helping them make an appointment. The state’s goal is to vaccinate 70% of its eligible adults by the end of May. So far, about 23% of the state’s 6.9 million adults have been fully vaccinated. (nj.com)
