Statement January 6 2021

Statement from the Mayor and Town Council regarding the assault of the Capitol in Washington D.C.

Today, news reports have been showing an assault on our American Democracy in Washington D.C. as a mob has attacked the Capitol Building.  What we are witnessing is completely unacceptable and cannot be tolerated. The peaceful transition of power is a cornerstone of the American Democracy and sets us apart from all others.

We, the undersigned, are speaking with a common voice against this insurrection. We must not allow these actions to find their way into our Berkeley Heights community.  We can not allow these attacks on our national system of governance to continue, and we must all talk to each other, respect each other’s opinions and stand together behind our democracy.

Mayor - Angie Devanney

Council President - Jeanne Kingsley

Council Vice President - Manuel Couto

Council Member - Gentiana Brahimaj

Council Member - Alvaro Medeiros
