On December 3, 2019, Environmental Commissioner Kim Diamond presented to the Township Council a primer on the adverse impacts of the use of plastic bags, plastic straws and polystyrene containers. Many towns in New Jersey have enacted local ordinances banning the items for use in their municipalities, and the state has also considered such legislation. At its January 21, 2020 meeting, the Township Council is scheduled to introduce an ordinance that would also ban these items, but allowing for a "ramp-up/phase-in period" for businesses and other entities to comply.
