Senior Citizen Advisory Board

The Functions of the Senior Citizens Advisory Board, approved by Resolution on September 24, 2019, will be to advise the Mayor and Township Council and the Parks & Recreation Director on all matters relating to policies and programs which will serve all senior citizens of this community including:

  • Identifying the needs of Berkeley Heights' senior residents and create a citizen awareness of these needs.
  • Establishing a communications system, e-mail/phone and other modes of communication to alert Berkeley Heights senior residents on urgent and other matters on-going in the township in conjunction with the Township Communications Committee.
  • Advising the Mayor, Township Council, and other Township departments, commissions and committees on all matters affecting Berkeley Heights' senior residents.
  • Supporting existing services to Berkeley Heights' senior residents, both public and private, and encouraging coordination among organizations providing such services.
  • In cooperation with other organizations, disseminating information on services available to Berkeley Heights' senior residents.
  • Performing such other functions and duties as may be directed by the Mayor and Township Council.
  • Serving as an advocate for the needs of senior citizens.

Meetings

The Senior Advisory Board will hold regular monthly meetings, and additional meetings as the Board deems necessary.

Agendas & Minutes

Once the Board begins to meet, summary minutes will be signed by the Senior Advisory Board Chairperson and may be posted to the Township website.

Members

The Senior Advisory Board will elect one of its members as Chairperson and one of its members as Vice Chairperson, whose terms will be one year.

The membership will consist of seven (7) members and one (1) alternate member who are appointed by the Mayor to serve one (1) year terms, a majority of members will be at least 55 years of age.  Terms expire 12/31/2020

The Township welcomes and encourages residents who have specific experience applicable to each Committee, Board and Commission to apply for available positions. Please note that there are only a few volunteer opportunities available each year as there are staggered terms for members of each Committee, Board and Commission. However, some committees are always in need of extra volunteers for various events throughout the year.
